War Room – A Review

If you haven’t yet seen the previews for War Room, you may not even know what I’m talking about so here’s the trailer:

Prayer is the overriding theme of this film, but it’s prayer unlike any I’ve seen before. This is intentional, combative prayer to win battles against evil.

We start by meeting Miss Clara’s husband as he’s fighting in the military, creating a battle plan to attack their enemy. This theme reverberates throughout the movie as Miss Clara leads unsuspecting Elizabeth in the proper way to pray, to fight our enemy, Satan. Miss Clara does so in her War Room, a closet off her bedroom that is dedicated solely to her daily prayer battle plan.

“But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.” ~ Matthew 6:6

Elizabeth’s life seems charmed: big house, nice car, fancy clothes, a beautiful daughter, and a hunky husband. But as is usually the case, behind closed doors Elizabeth’s life is hollow. She’s lost her joy in life.

When Elizabeth is hired by Miss Clara to sell her home of many years, she quickly realizes that being lukewarm is not terribly desirable and Miss Clara isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to teaching Elizabeth the correct way to pray. The casting for this movie was superb, from Priscilla Shirer to Beth Moore they really hit the characters on the head. Each actor played a superb role in creating a seamless experience, however, Miss Clara’s character played by Karen Abercrombie was my favorite.

Though the theme of the movie is prayer, there are so many other layers within: family, friendship, church, honesty, adultery, and many more. This was truly a blessing to go see and I’ll be the first in line to purchase the movie when it comes out on DVD. War Room will make you laugh, cry, cringe, and think but ultimately it will make you want to go out and do!
